The Ebro ( Ebro in Spanish, Basque and Aragonese , Ebre in Catalan) is the most powerful Spanish rivers. Its length is 928 km and watershed 85,550 km ² in area
Until recently, its source was located Fontibre ( Latin, Fontes Iberis ' sources of the Ebro ' in Greek Ἴβηρ ) , 880 m altitude, near Reinosa in the autonomous community of Cantabria . It is estimated today that originates in the Ebro sources Híjar to Peñalabra at 1980 m altitude and 27 km upstream from Reinosa .
Its upper course is in remarkable gorges. It crosses Cantabria, Castile and León , La Rioja , Navarre , Aragon before emptying into the Mediterranean in Catalonia, with a large delta of 320 km near Amposta ( Tarragona ), where the Buda island .
