Tuscany & wine

Tuscany is one of the world's most important wine regions.

Among the wines of Tuscany, we can not not mention the Chianti , Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which are derived mainly from Sangiovese grapes , and the side of the white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

Tuscany has 38 original controlled appellation wines (DOC ) and 7 wines with names of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin ( DOCG ) .

Around 1970 after a revolution in winemaking , appeared in the region of Bolgheri , a new class of more known under the name " Super Tuscan " wines. These wines are made outside the strict discipline of DOC and DOCG , but contrary to what one might expect , have become the backbone of the production of Tuscan wines : in fact producers, without the limitations the strict regulations of the DOC and DOCG in winemaking and aging ... gave free rein to their creativity. They created wines with unmatched features , powerful and structured wines , so that today many of these wines have become an object of worship.

In the end today, many of the original Super Tuscans have become true DOC or DOCG (eg Bolgheri ), but many producers still choose to produce wines that do not fall in any discipline.

RED WINE OF TUSCANY

Chianti is produced in eight separate areas covering a vast area of central Tuscany , around the original nucleus of the Chianti Classico . The large differences in climate and geology of the different production areas contribute to the individuality of each wine : Chianti wines are generally fresh and easy to drink wine , although it is usually a wine full-bodied and complex , can greatly improve with age.

Perhaps one of the world's most famous Tuscan wines , Brunello di Montalcino. He was born in a very limited area , an idea of the Biondi Santi family and it ? A century ago. Reasons Sangiovese Grosso is obtained a wine structure and unique body , capable of long aging , it develops aromas and flavors with a time of exceptional quality.

From the same area, we can find wines of great immediacy and ease , and with the same grapes for producing Brunello di Montalcino, red , young and fresh wine , but still high quality , as Moscato di Montalcino and Moscadello , a variety of wines that fall under the designation of Antimo and will be perfect to accompany your desserts.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a variety of type of Sangiovese known locally Prugnolo was developed centuries ago by the poet Francesco Redi " the king of wines ." Nobile is a wine with more dynamic features with fragrant notes of spice and red fruit and acidity and tannins fairly obvious , which makes an elegant but not always easy to drink wine.

The Carmignono is probably the first wine with controlled origin of Tuscany in 1716. In fact, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de 'Medici delimitation in the production area to offer the world's first example of controlled origin .

The production of alternative high-level wine , which began as a trend in the 1970s , has become a key factor for the overall improvement of Tuscan red wines .

Cult wines, which are now known as "Super Tuscans" , continued to thrive. However, Sassicaia , a pure Cabernet , which in 1970 , convinced the world that Italy could make modern reds international level, now has its own name with a controlled denomination of origin , the Bolgheri .

Tignanello blending Sangiovese and Cabernet served as a model for the new style of Tuscan red wine aged in small oak casks or barrels , instead of old barrels .

Inspired by the success of Cabernet and Merlot in Bolgheri wines from the Tuscan coast have seen rapidly increase their prestige so that today they rival those of Tuscany, helping to increase the prestige of the region.

WHITE WINE OF TUSCANY

Until recently, white Tuscan wines of great prestige did not have a great reputation internationally, probably because most were made with grape varieties considered , often incorrectly, by a rather low quality , as Malvasia and Trebbiano .

Today , things are changing . Vernaccia di San Gimignano , the ancient Vernaccia wine has experienced a renaissance that led to his promotion to the first white DOCG wines of the region.

Vermentino has spread in the hills of the coast as a variety of white with a real commitment to quality .

Recently, we started to produce white a beautiful depth and some complexity with international varieties such as Chardonnay , Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco and Grigio , who found the ideal climate for their cultivation in areas the cooler hills of the region.

How not to mention, then , the history of Vin Santo , the pride of many producers in the region . Made with partially dried grapes Malvasia and Trebbiano and aged in small oak barrels , Vino Santopeut be an excellent dessert wine , but also a good appetizer .
