The Canterbury region is a region of New Zealand is located on the coast of the South Island It includes the Canterbury Plains, the great city of Christchurch and parts of the Southern Alps.
The area is known for its vineyards in the Waipara and around Christchurch and more recently in Kurow.
News crops are planted in the north of Canterbury, as the crops of olives, nuts, lavender, asparagus, saffron flowers and more than 1,500 hectares of vines planted on 63 vineyards.
The Waipara Valley, located in the Canterbury region has a well established reputation as a wine-producing region in New Zealand.
The average vineyard area is about 10.5ha, allowing specialization in Waipara Valley.
